Time off is longer than 'downtime'
Published downtime usually means 'socially presentable'. Cognitive fatigue, disturbed sleep, and diet restriction often persist longer, particularly after skeletal surgery.
Set up before, not after
Arrange a caregiver for the first 48–72 hours, sleep support for head elevation, soft or liquid nutrition, medication schedules, and follow-up transport before your surgery date.
If travelling abroad, confirm how long you must stay locally and what happens if a complication occurs after you fly home.
